FYI: Three Types of BMT

Allogeneic: Transplantation  of bone marrow or blood cells from a person other than the patient.  The donor is usually a close relative, such as parent or sibling of the patient.

Autologous: Transplantation of patient's own bone marrow or blood cells taken before high-dose chemo- therapy or radiation.

Syngeneic: Transplantation of  bone marrow or blood cells taken from the identical twin of the patient.  Syngeneic BMT is often the most effective type of BMT.
